The Marble Hide-Away cabin is in the North West corner of the original Township of Marble, Colorado. Marble lies in a sleepy little valley which runs East & West at an elevation of 8,000 ft. on the western slope of Colorado. The town is flanked by a valley on each side of the Crystal River. County road #3, which leads you to Marble, follow the Crystal River 5.5 miles and dead ends in the Town unless you are an avid 4x4 enthusiast, in such case you will end up in Crested Butte. Crested Butte is South and East of Marble, Aspen is North and East, Carbondale is North and West, Paonia is South and West.

The Crystal River Valley slowly becomes alive and green, the snow slowly melts and the river rises, and life is abundant again. Many trails become free of snow providing access to many of the 10,00 to 13,000 ft. peaks that are around Marble. The Yule Marble Quarry hiking trail has been closed due to private property issues. The Crystal RIver, Carbonate Creek and Beaver Lake are withing walking distance of the cabin. You can fish, raft, play with kids in the water, or just sit on the bank and listen to the boulders roll down the river bed. For the more adventurist Yule Lakes and Geneva Lake offer native fish, cut-throat, and brookies.

A favorite of visitors is to do the Lead King Basin Loop. You can walk, ride a horse or motorcycle, drive your 4x4 vehicle or let Marble Jeep Tours do the driving for you. Head East out of Marble past Beaver Lake up Daniels Hill. At the top of Daniels Hill take a right down to Lost Trail Creek. Immediately after crossing on your right is a trail to Hat Mountain, a great place to hike. Continuing on, you come to Lizard Lake, take a look at the cliffs above the lake you might see Eagles or their nests in the rocks. Past the lake you go down to the Crystal River and follow the old railroad bed that ends up in Crystal City. Here you will see the most photographed building in Colorado, the Crystal Mill. Take a left when leaving Crystal and head past Mineral Point and in a couple of miles you're in Lead King Basin. Keep on going West, you will pass the trail head to Geneva Lake and end up at the top of Daniels Hill were your journey began. DETAILS

Fall is my favorite season. The summer heat is gone and the sky is as blue as you can imagine. The Aspens and Oaks turn brilliant colors. This is the best time for a road trip over McClure Pass and over Kebler Pass to Crested Butte for lunch and then return to Marble.

Deer and Elk are plentiful around Marble. Hunters can have great success if you are willing to get off the main drag and into the woods. But be warned the mountains are steep and trail horses are nice, but with a little man power you can have a successful hunt.

By January, Marble is snowed in again, sometimes by November. Now it's time to snowshoe or cross country ski. A day of ice fishing can be fun on Beaver Lake. For expert only, you can ski Mt. Daily, Mt Justice, chutes off the Quarry road, Whitehouse Mt., McClure pass and Lead King Basin. For the ice climbers, you have Milton Falls, Yule Falls, Crystal River Falls and Hays Creek Falls. Ice climbing is also spectacular in Redstone up Coal Creek Basin which has one route with a rating of WI5.

Marble is as close to nature as any place in Colorado you can drive a car too. At all times of the year you are surrounded by sights, sounds, and smells of the woods, wildlife is abundant right out the front door. Deer, elk, fox, bear, small birds, eagles, hawks, whistle pigs and fish. But remember if it gets too quiet for you, it's 40 minutes to Carbondale, 1 hour to Glenwood Springs, 1 hr to Aspen and 1 hr to Paonia.
